Goma Ichi – Favorite Ramen in Honolulu

Our friends, Kevin & Sue, have been visiting from San Jose and Toronto. They started a food blog called Food Snobs for fun. That inspired me to blog about some of my favorite restaurants.

Goma Ichi is our favorite ramen place in Honolulu. I’m all about noodles – Italian, Chinese, any kind. Ramen has been one of my favorite foods since I was a child and the tan tan ramen served at Goma Ichi is the best I’ve had. It’s salty, spicy…richly flavored. The noodles are usually al dente. I say usually because they sometimes overcook them. I love the wakame version with wakame (seaweed) and a boiled egg and the vegetable version with carrots, greens and mushrooms. The vegetables vary slightly, but it’s subtly done.

We usually order the gyoza. The gyoza is fried, then steamed for just the right combination of crispy and soft. Yum!
