Shown together for the first time are selections from seven portfolios by one of Hawai‘i’s most celebrated photographers. Shot on isolated hikes, while visiting friends’ gardens, on the side of the road, and in the studio, Salmoiraghi’s photographs explore natural light, form and the individual qualities of each blossom or leaf.
“The various flora provided a means to explore formal visual qualities of light, shadow, form, texture and space,” says Salmoiraghi. “They also allowed me to enter an atmosphere of deeper emotional layers of beauty, sensuality and metaphor ultimately expressed in the black and white photographic print.”
