Volcano and Kalapana

Kris’ nephew came to visit us for Christmas and we had another chance to explore the island. We went to Volcanoes National Park and hiked Kilauea Iki. It’s a favorite of mine as the four mile loop goes through the rain forest and the across the variations of lava in the crater.

We went to the Kapoho Tide Pools that are so beautiful and calming.

The geo-thermally heated hot ponds at Ahalanui were a bit crowded because of the weekend.

I love Mackenzie Park and the fact that people think it’s haunted makes it even more mysterious and attractive. The waves pounding against the black lava cliffs creating a waterfall effect are just amazing.

We snorkeled at Richardson Park where the cool underground springs give shocking cold currents. We saw tons of varieties on butterflyfish – raccoons, pyramid, lemon. I’ve never seen such friendly turtles. They came right up to us!Reflections
