We were about to leave Narai at the time a parade was coming through town. We were told it was for the installation of a new head priest and it only happens every fifty years.
Don’t you love it when you run into special happenings without planning to. When we were in Hokkaido, we were a little lost then ran into a “shichi-go-san” (7,5,3) festival with all the little kids dressed up and getting blessed. We parked the car and followed them to see so many adorable girls and boys in their kimono.

It was very cool. They are getting ready for the shichi-go-san holiday now. The stores were stocked with stuff for it.
